Retiree
I had a lengthy career in Hong Kong, and recently retired back to Scotland. I began working with BMP because I needed financial advice as I approached my retirement.
From the start it was much more than just a ‘tick a box’ exercise. My BMP wealth manager worked slowly, not forcibly, gaining background information and building up trust between our two parties. He spent a lot of time looking at the options and explaining them for my benefit, and we very much worked together to produce a sensible financial plan.
When I was looking to move back to the UK, there were also a number of tax complexities in terms of UK law vs various trusts – thankfully my adviser has a wide and deep knowledge of investments, trusts and policies, so I felt in good hands.
It was all about a question of trust. My adviser wasn’t pushy, but gave advice and support where I needed it most, all the time being friendly and personable. They were also very transparent in terms of fees and commission, and I always felt reassured that any targets set were for my own financial benefit, not theirs.
People say when you retire you have all the time in the world – it’s a myth! I’m busier than ever with family, house and personal projects on the go. But what I can say is that I’ve entered my retirement with a strong financial base due to the work the BMP team has done, for which I’m grateful.
